Sheraton Austin at the Capitol
Austin, TX | Hospitality
The Sheraton Austin at the Capital, originally built in 1986, has remained a staple through Austins steady growth in the hotel industry over the last decade. Austin, the states capital, lies at the heart of Texas and remains a diverse community with a unique genetic makeup that speaks to people of all ages. It is a culture rich in education, politics, entertainment and the arts and prides itself in all things local, genuine and unique.
The renovation of the Sheraton Austin comes at a very opportunistic time in that it coincides with the revitalization of the historical Waller Creek. Equipped with hiking and bike trails mixed with a lattice of bridges and parks, the Waller Creek development will run directly behind the hotel property and will allow the hotels newly renovated backyard to not only be a destination for business travelers and tourists, but for local and pedestrian traffic alike. Just as Waller Creek aims to be the link between downtown and East Austin, and serve as an artery to a city that was once divided, this renewal of the Sheraton Austin will serve as an opportunity to bring new energy and to reconnect a once segregated hotel.
The interiors will be sophisticated yet comfortable and designed to be timeless and transitional with clean, modified interpretations of classic traditional and geometric forms. Local materials and vendors will be used wherever possible and local merchants and artists will have their trades incorporated for a heightened guest experience.
The same sculptural lighting that draws you into the lobby will also draw your eye down to the lower level with a cascading fixture that floats above the new bar and restaurant. By utilizing the large expanse of windows and lots of natural light, this space acts as a transition between the interior and the incredible outdoor space. A vibrant bar, a flexible restaurant and a great outdoor lounge will offer the guest a variety of experiences.
